Like most, if not all, of you, I was an avid Harry Potter fan. When Half-Blood Prince came out, I immediately dove into it and, when finished, could NOT wait until when the next one would be released. Then, it dawned on me that it would be the last book of the series and I would no longer be able to adventure along with Harry Potter. Throughout my life, whenever something happened that could have caused me depression or disappointment, I found something associated with that event, things or people around me, or something that I could grasp onto that would keep me happy or excited rather than let the depression or disappointment take hold. Therefore, knowing that I would be very disappointed when the last Harry Potter book came out and ended the series,1 decided to try my hand at writing my own series in the vein of Harry Potter. During the Harry Potter series, I frequently visited J.K.'s website. My favorite part of that website was when she answered emails from readers. In one email, a young girl asked J.K. if American children would be able to attend Hogwarts. J.K. responded that Hogwarts was a school for British children, whereas American children would attend a school in America and recommended that someone else would have to write that story.
So, when I realized the Harry Potter series would be coming to an end, I took up J.K.'s recommendation and based my series on it. When I started my series, I did not know of the concept of Fan Fiction. Nevertheless, I did basically write my series under that concept. Although my series has no direct links or callouts to anything in Harry Potter, anyone who is a Harry Potter fan will recognize the connections in the backdrop of my series. Furthermore, although the basic idea of a young boy going to a school of witchcraft is the same as Harry Potter, the storyline is different and very American (see the series synopsis above). I will conclude with information on the timeline for this series, in case you were asking,"Why write this now?" As noted above, I started writing this series right after the release of Half Blood Prince, late summer of 2005. It took a year and a half to finish the first book, owing to research and a major rewrite, completing it spring of 2007. From that point on, it took me one year to complete each of the other books, completing the last book in spring of 2012. So,although it has taken a while to do so, they are here now for your enjoyment. Why it took me so long to put this series out to you ... well, that is another story.
